The invention is applicable to the traffic field and provides a vehicle distance alarming system and method based on the ultra-wideband wireless positioning technology. The vehicle distance alarming system comprises an electronic license plate, at least three base stations and a vehicle distance alarming server, wherein the electronic license plate is adhered to a vehicle and used for transmitting ultra-wideband pulse signals; the at least three base stations are arranged along the roadside, synchronously connected with one another and used for receiving the ultra-wideband pulse signals and uploading the time when the ultra-wideband signals are receive; the vehicle distance alarming server is used for, according to a preset positioning algorithm and the times uploaded by every base station when the ultra-wideband pulse signals are received, generating the real-time coordinate of the electronic license plate, positioning a target vehicle and nearby vehicles and measuring the driving speed and the vehicle distances of the target vehicle and the nearby vehicles, and according to the driving speed and the vehicle distances of the target vehicle and the nearby vehicles, issuing alarming information. According to the vehicle distance alarming system and method based on the ultra-wideband wireless positioning technology, the base stations and the electronic license plate transfer signals through the ultra-wideband wireless communication technology, so that traffic accidents as well as the occurrence rate of the traffic accidents can be reduced.
