To provide a vehicle detector, a vehicle detection method and a program which are installable in a reduced space, and with which it is possible to reduce misdetection.SOLUTION: The vehicle detector comprises: a first distance measuring sensor for irradiating light in an irradiation cycle and thereby detecting a first distance that is the distance on a vehicle road to a first position that is a first end part of a vehicle in the travel direction of the vehicle; a second distance measuring sensor for irradiating light in the irradiation cycle and thereby detecting a second distance that is the distance from the first position to a second position that is a second end part of the vehicle on the upstream or downstream side of the travel direction of the vehicle; and a vehicle detection unit for determining, on the basis of the first and second distances, that the vehicle passing down the vehicle road is detected, when the first and second distances are less than or equal to a distance threshold a count threshold or more in succession. The first and second distance measuring sensors are installed so that the radiation direction of the first distance measuring sensor and the radiation direction of the second distance measuring sensor form a prescribed angle, and the vehicle detection unit sets a count threshold in the irradiation cycle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
