Systems and methods, among other things, for an automatic emergency braking system are described. A deceleration command is obtained from an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system of a vehicle. A second deceleration command is obtained in response to an operating mode of the vehicle. Arbitration is made between a deceleration command from the AEB system and a second deceleration command based on an operating mode of the vehicle. Braking of the vehicle is initiated using the arbitrated deceleration command.
