A system for controlling a vehicle to perform a safety action and a method thereof, the system comprising: a lateral blind spot detection module configured to determine that a lateral blind spot of a first vehicle is formed due to obscuring of a second vehicle in a lateral direction of the first vehicle; a movement feature monitoring module configured to monitor a movement feature of the second vehicle in response to the lateral blind spot being determined; and a safety action control module configured to control the first vehicle to perform a safety action based on the monitored movement characteristic of the second vehicle.
