This paper considers the control of an electromagnetic active suspension system for a quarter car model. Because variation of the sprung mass, damping and tire stiffness exist and can not be estimated, a robust control structure is considered. By designing different controllers, either comfort or handling can be emphasized. Simulations as well as measurements on a full size quarter car setup have been executed, showing the possible performance and efficiency gains of the electromagnetic suspension system.
