Intersections are a location of many road accidents. The EU project INTERSAFE-2 aims to improve safety at intersections considerably by developing and demonstrating a Cooperative Intersection Safety System. This paper explains the test site sensors and environmental model of this system, along with the special challenges for the infrastructure installation. Different approaches for an optimization of the mounting positions are presented. The performance of Laserscanner sensors in this scenarios is shown and evaluated with measurement data from the public test site in the city of Wolfsburg, Germany.
