The compact disc player for automotive use is required to be small sized enough for installation in the dashboard and to withstand a severe environment in the car; such as shocks, vibration, a wide range of tempratures, and os on. And its operation must be simple. In order to satisfy these requirements, the optical pick-up, deck mechanism and servo-control circuit are important factors. The optical pick-up and spindle motor are newly developed. The deck mechanism is especially designed for withstanding shocks and vibration. The most important matter is to stop or reduce the resonance of the mechanism, including the disc itself. For this purpose, the pick-up structure of the pick-up carriage and disc clamping mechanism are most significant. The open loop gain of the servo-control is high within a wide frequency range. As a result, the use of a CD player in a DIN size chassis, can practically be realized in a car.
