The project is located one-half mile south of the Town of Ash Fork, Arizona. It begins at approximate Milepost 144+ on present U.S. Interstate and Defense Highway 40 and 66 one mile west of Ash Fork and extends easterly 3.41 miles. Construction consists of two divided 38-foot roadways with a median separation beginning at Engineer's Station 7856+ at the West Ash Fork Traffic Interchange and ending at Engineer's Station 8036+ at the Yavapai and Coconino County line. A bridge structure will be constructed at Station 7940+. The use of land for right-of-way purposes and its removal from the land use pattern cannot be avoided. The alteration of natural terrain and the removal of vegetation will occur as a result of necessary construction operations, but the effect will be minimized by reseeding and planting techniques. The existence of noise from traffic is anticipated; however, the effect from the completion of this project will actually be less than in the before situation as traffic will now be one-half mile south of Ash Fork.
