Interstate 17 crosses the northwest corner of the Montezuma Castle National Monument. The project will provide the second roadway needed to bring this section of highway up to Interstate standards. Two traffic interchanges project will eliminate the grade crossings in the Verde Valley and add to the convenience and safety of the motorist. Some marginal grazing land will be removed from production and the clearing of some trees in the Verde River will be necessary for the construction of a bridge. Mineral resources will be used in the roadbed. No other adverse effects are anticipated.
