The Navy NOVA-III satellite is scheduled to be launched October 11, 1984, on a Scout launch vehicle from the Western Space and Missile Center. The NOVA-III satellite is the second in a series of improved Transit Navigation Satellites. The launch vehicle for the NOVA-III will be a Scout G-l configuration, vehicle S-20X, with a 34-inch diameter heatshield. The Scout vehicle will place the spacecraft into an elliptical polar transfer orbit of 180.0 x 541.5 NM, period 98.106 minutes, at an inclination of 90.0 degrees. A multiple burn spacecraft hydrazine motor will then be utilized to raise and circularize the orbit to approximately 600 NM.
