A method for controlling an active rear wheel steering device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a first step of determining whether the rear wheel steering device is normally operated or not; a second step of determining whether the operation of the rear wheel steering device is necessary or not when it is determined that the rear wheel steering device is normally operated; a third step of calculating a target steering angle of rear wheels when it is determined that the operation of the rear wheel steering device is necessary; a fourth step of obtaining the amount of the toe-in compensation of the rear wheels and calculating target helm angles of each rear wheel based on at least one between the target steering angle of the rear wheels and the amount of the toe-in compensation of the rear wheels; and a fifth step of controlling helm angles of each rear wheel based on the target helm angles of the rear wheels.
