To provide a balancer which can reduce a change rate of tension, while being suppressed from enlarging in size.SOLUTION: A balancer according to the present invention comprises: an actuator that has a hydraulic cylinder, a hydraulic pump that supplies hydraulic oil to the hydraulic cylinder and a piston rod provided to freely advance and retreat with respect to the hydraulic cylinder, which is moved by hydraulic oil supplied to the hydraulic cylinder, which adjusts tension of a wire rod; a tension sensor provided between the wire rod and the actuator, which detects tension of the wire rod; a driving control part that controls the actuator on the basis of the tension of the wire rod detected by the tension sensor; and a corrosion preventing mechanism that prevents the piston rod from corroding.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
