PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of detecting a distant lane marking.SOLUTION: A lane marking detection system includes: an imaging apparatus 10 for imaging the surroundings of a vehicle; and a lane marking detection ECU 20. The lane marking detection ECU includes: an information extraction section which extracts depth distance information from the imaging apparatus to an object, on the basis of image information in an imaging area captured by the imaging apparatus 10; a road surface area specifying section which specifies a distant road surface area which excludes a road surface area near the vehicle in the image information and is located farther than the vehicle, on the basis of the depth distance information; and a lane marking detection section for detecting a lane marking in the distant road surface area, on the basis of image information corresponding to a position of the distant road surface area.
