A method for determining a position of a vehicle 202 in a lane includes receiving perception information from a first camera positioned on a first side of a vehicle and a second camera positioned on a second side of the vehicle. The method also includes determining, using one or more neural networks (NN), a position of the vehicle with respect to lane markings 204, 206 on the first and second sides of the vehicle. The method further includes notifying a driver or control system of the position of the vehicle (e.g. autonomous vehicle). The NN could be a deep convolutional NN and have filter windows sized based on the thickness of the lane markings. The NN could also include a Euclidean loss layer. The cameras could be positioned laterally and face perpendicularly to the drive axis 214 of the vehicle (see regions 208, 210).
