The invention relates to a method for determining a predicted own speed (vres) of a vehicle (1), the vehicle traveling along a predetermined road section, the own speed being determined for at least one location or at least one section of the road section, the method comprising the following steps: determining an average speed at which a current road user travels at the location or section, determining a first average speed, and determining a second average speed at which the current road user travels, determining a first average speed which is low enough to assume that the own speed of the vehicle at the location or section inevitably corresponds to the average speed due to the traffic density, determining a second average speed which is high enough to assume that the traffic density at the location or section does not affect the own speed of the vehicle, if the average speed is between the first average speed and the second average speed, a predicted own speed is determined based on the average speed and by interpolation between the first average speed and the second average speed.
