The present disclosure relates to a method of operating a parking assist system for a motor vehicle, comprising: acquiring environmental data indicative of an environment around the motor vehicle; determining an idle parking space in front of the motor vehicle based on the environmental data; determining a forward parking mode based on the determined parking space; and autonomously forward parking the motor vehicle into the determined parking space according to the determined forward parking mode. In addition, the invention also relates to a computer program product, a computer readable storage medium, a parking assistance system for a motor vehicle and a motor vehicle corresponding to the method.
