Techniques and systems herein enable estimated acceleration determination for AEB. Specifically, for a potential collision, it is determined whether a target of the potential collision is likely to stop prior to the potential collision (e.g., due to its own braking). Then, one of the plurality of estimated acceleration functions is selected based on whether the target is likely to stop prior to the potential collision. An estimated acceleration for avoiding the potential collision is calculated using the selected estimated acceleration function. By selecting different estimated acceleration functions based on whether the target is likely to stop prior to a potential collision, a more accurate estimated acceleration may be generated, thereby enabling better avoidance of collisions and/or unnecessary forced actions.
