The invention discloses a cable inspection robot dog and a cable inspection method, which relate to the technical field of cable inspection robot dogs. The cable inspection robot dog comprises an image acquisition mechanism and a lithium battery power supply, a robot dog head shell is installed below the image acquisition mechanism, illuminating lamp panels are installed at the front end and the rear end of the robot dog head shell, an illuminating mechanism is arranged in the robot dog head shell, a reversing opening and closing mechanism is installed on one side of the illuminating mechanism, and an air hole is formed in one side of the interior of the robot dog head shell. According to the cable inspection robot dog and the cable inspection method, the arranged adjusting hydraulic oil cylinder can push the illuminating lamp tube to rotate along the exterior of the connecting pin; the rotating angle of the illuminating lamp tube can be effectively changed, and the illuminating lamp tube can be adjusted to a proper angle, so that the illuminating lamp tube can effectively provide illuminating service for a cable inspection robot dog and a cable inspection method.
