This control system is provided with: a position detection device for detecting the position of a work machine; a non-contact sensor for detecting an object near a side of a travel route without contact; a map data creation unit for creating management map data on the basis of detection data from the position detection device and detection data from the non-contact sensor; a first storage unit for storing divided map data; a second storage unit separate from the first storage unit; an updating unit for determining, on the basis of the detection data of the position detection device, specific map data from among a plurality of items of divided map data stored in the first storage unit and causing the second storage unit to load the specific map data; and a position calculation unit for calculating the position of the work machine by comparing the specific map data loaded by the second storage unit and the detection data of the non-contact sensor.
