Great Northern decided to lay new track in panels instead of employing conventional methods to achieve speed in constructing 15 1/2 mi freight line to new Air Force base at Glasgow, Mont; track panels were preassembled in 33-ft and 39-ft lengths; each was complete with ties, rails, tie plates and joint bars, latter being loosely bolted in pairs to one end; method enabled road to lay 6000 ft of track per day.
