Trend is toward more powerful trucks requiring drivelines with extended life under more severe operating conditions; requirements must be met not only by selecting proper joint sizes, but by recognizing specific needs for handling operating length changes of drivelines; paper shows that antifriction units in place of splines combat many of problems of high torque thrust loads.
