This paper reviews the functions, construction, and operating characteristics of truck driveline systems. It shows the various types of universal joint-propeller shaft constructions used in a wide range of applications. There is discussion of conventional considerations, constant velocity joints, wheel drive installations, and others. The dynamic characteristics are studied as to how they affect and are affected by the entire vehicle drive train. Experience factors are shown to establish practical engineering guide limitations.
