The invention relates to an adaptive detection and avoidance system with integrity monitoring. An apparatus for real-time detection and avoidance of objects is provided. The apparatus includes a first sensor that collects environmental data and a second sensor that collects external data corresponding to external objects within a detection range of the apparatus. The apparatus also includes a processor that calculates in real time a minimum distance for evading the external object based at least in part on the environmental data and the external data, monitors the environmental data and the external data, and controls the apparatus to evade the external object based on the calculated minimum distance and the monitored environmental data and the external data.
