The AirLand Battle doctrine visualizes a fast tempo of operations. Its tenets emphasize seizing the initiative, acting faster than the enemy, extending the depth of operations in space and time and synchronising activities to maximise relative combat power at the decisive point. Timely intelligence will be a prerequisite. Technology offers opportunities for advances in signal/data processing, artificial intelligence, direction finding and IR and electro-optical techniques. Major emphasis is being placed on the development of ground-based common sensors, a common ground station, unmanned aerial vehicles, and the perfection of the joint surveillance and target attack radar system (Joint STARS).
