The US Department of Defense's DARPA/Army Airland Battle Management Program (ALBM), which is an application of the DARPA strategic computing program, is considered. The focus is on the US Army application and the joint DARPA/Army technical goals. The major steps required for the staff planning process are outlined. A prototype system called FORCES, which is being developed to implement the planning process, is described.
