Discusses the current thinking on tactical communication. Communications equipment being marketed in the commercial environment is taking advantage of the latest technologies to become lighter, quieter and smaller. The Army must take advantage of the same technologies and still accommodate the need to provide security and protection against the threats of electronic countermeasures and the effects of the nuclear battlefield (such as EMP and radiation).
