The testing strategy for the validation of FlexRay ECUs deviates in several issues from the design process of CAN test benches. This article identifies the main differences between both bus systems and shows solutions for these items regarding the development of test benches. The de facto standards PXI and LabVIEW are very well suited for building up FlexRay test benches. By using both technologies the reliability, modularity and speed of PXI systems is joined with the rapid development times of LabVIEW applications. With the choice of LabVIEW RT (Real Time) as operating system it becomes possible to ensure short and fixed response times. In combination with a comprehensive toolchain, configuration and communication can be implemented easily by using FIBEX files.
