Freight Rover, as part of their overall investment programme, installed a modern spray and immersion pretreatment and electrophorectic priming facility utilising the latest technology in Process Control. This installation represented Phase I of their investment and has now been in operation for two years. Phase II of the programme was to automate the application of colour paint to the van interiors. BL Technology, in conjunction with the main contractor, was responsible for developing and implementing the facility. This paper looks at the various options examined to automate the process, and development work undertaken and the implementation and commissioning phases leading to a successful conclusion of the project - the first of its kind in the UK.
