Recently many kinds of precoated steels have been proposed for automotive application. It is important to evaluate the corrosion characteristics of these electrocated steels. The authors have investigated the phosphatability of several galvanized steels and Zincrometal. Their corrosion behavior have been studied after phosphating and electrocoating with either anodic or cathodic paint. X-ray study have revealed that phosphate crystal on the zinc precoated steel is Hopeite. Phosphophylite was found to be not identified. Galvannealed steel and Zincrometal were more corrosion resistant than hot dipped galvanized and electrogalvanized steel. Cathodic electrocoated pannel is much better corrosion resistant than anodic electrocoated one. (Wassmann)
