The authors give an historical account of the studies and experiments which led up to the design and manufacture of the traction equipment of the High-Speed Train. They describe the operation of the control and power electronic equipment which ensures the control of the system in all configurations: traction with DC or AC single-phase current as well as rheostatic braking.
