Automatic margin-angle control systems for the inverters of single-phase dc electric locomotives are considered; results are reported for investigations of their performance characteristics. A block diagram is given for a system that has been developed for loop-by-loop regulation of inverter margin angle and selective processing of current disturbances; the transients occurring in it are analyzed. The automatic control system developed makes it possible to improve the energy characteristics of the regenerative-braking mode through a reduction in the margin-angle setting; there is a simultaneous improvement in inverter stability.
