The current of the art and immediate future of pulsed CO2 rangers is seen in the context of Nd:YAG laser history: first generation - establishing the technology/separate apertures, second generation - development and applications/the transceiver configuration, third generation - integration, maturity and production. The CO2 product range and parameters are indicated and the technology described. Advantages/disadvantages and performance are outlined. Likely applications are indicated, stand-alone and integrated, and requirements and methods of integration are shown in principle.
