This paper describes the design procedure used for Navy shipboard exterior RF communications system design. The approach is an iterative process by which candidate RF-system designs can be analyzed to determine their relative desirability. To support the design procedure, an automated capability has been developed consisting of two system modeling codes and three antenna modeling codes. This automated design procedure also has been applied to nonshipboard cosite communication systems.
