This paper describes the extension of present shipboard exterior communication design analysis to wideband systems. The present design procedure is an iterative process by which candidate RF-system designs can be analyzed to determine their relative desirability. To support the design procedure, a pair of system-modeling computer codes: Design (Communications) Algorithm (DECAL) and Performance Evaluation (Communications) Algorithm (PECAL) were developed. Both DECAL and PECAL analysis have been limited to narrowband communications. Recently, a new system analysis model called COSAM II(DECAL/PECAL) has been developed which can perform a topside Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) analysis involving both narrowband communications and wideband communications not previously used by the US Navy.
