Railways are one of the most extensively used types of transportation in the world. The amount of traffic on the roads and trains has increased dramatically in the recent years. As a result of this rapid expansion, there are an increasing number of accidents at level crossings. There is a potential that manually controlled gates at level crossing zones will fail to close due to a lack of attention and the absence of a gateman when the train arrives. Accidents are more prone to occur in such contexts, resulting in several injuries and property damage at rail crossings. As a result, hundreds of people are losing their life. In this paper, we propose a prototype of an automated railway gate using a Raspberry Pi controller. We employed infrared sensors to monitor train arrivals and servo motors to manage gate operations, such as opening and closing the gates.
