Abstract The classification of methods for carrier-based aircraft wing folding is presented. We determined the factors influencing the folding axis position and the mass increase of the wing being folded. We also suggested a technique of deriving the folding wing mass formula by an example of the wing rotation around the axis, which is parallel to the aircraft plane of symmetry.
