The ideas that follow in this paper relate to the central theme of autonomous mobile robot navigation. Particular attention is given to the issue of designing a capability of landmark recognition. The proposed scheme of landmark recognition is intended to correct for the problem of discrepancies between the robot's actual location and the robot's estimate of its location.
