Cast magnesium wheels can be made to meet the demands of the automotive industry. In particular, important gains have been made inproving the corrosion behaviour of the cast magnesium wheel. In an organized development program where an automotive manufacturer, components suppliers and material suppliers have participated, prototype wheels have been made and tested. The paper describes test results and gives a general outline of the program and the technical approach.
