In years past, the principal properties of gasketing were tensile, compressibility and recovery. Today, after extensive testing on all properties for gasketing there has arisen a greater demand for improved seal-ability. Improvements in gasketing properties, other than sealability, has not lead to greater benefits to the “End-User” to meet the challenge of reducing emissions and manufacturing costs. Systematic sealability testing with identifiable variables can give a sound basis for classifying functionality of gasket materials.
