In order to investigate the sealing behaviour of gasket materials, sealing tests in the laboratory which approximate to conditions found in practice are necessary. To localise the sealing breakdown within a sealing gap, a different testing method is necessary to that used for determining the uniformity of the scaling behaviour or for a quantitative determination of sealing breakdowns against liquids. For this purpose, altogether three different testing methods including the necessary testing equipment are presented. In order to meet the first two objectives, methods are used which enable the leakage to be visualised. The detection of the leakage in its early stages followed by a precise determination of the leakage rate is realised by means of conductivity measurements.
