A test assembly used to evaluate the sealability of materials at various flange pressures is described. The assembly, and the techniques which have been developed permit a wide range of compositions to be evaluated for sealing characteristics. The apparatus is designed to use an inert gas, hence interaction between the gasket material and the sealed medium is at a minimum. Data obtained with this test have been correlated with actual field applications.
