This report describes a survey of axle-load distribution carried out on four main roads in West Malaysia during 1967 as part of a research program to develop methods of pavement design appropriate to tropical and sub-tropical countries. Nearly 7,000 axles of heavy commercial vehicles were weighed using a prototype electronic weighing unit and the values measured were related to the type of vehicle, degree of loading, direction of travel and the commodities carried. The spectrum of axle loadings obtained is compared with that of other countries. (Author)
