The paper describes a survey of axle load distribution carried out on four main roads in West Malaysia during 1967 as part of the Road Research Laboratory's research programme to develop pavement design methods appropriate to tropical and subtropical countries. Nearly 7000 axles of heavy commercial vehicles were weighed using a prototype electronic weighing unit and the values measured were related to the type of vehicle, degree of loading, direction of travel and the commodities carried. The spectrum of axle loadings obtained is compared with that of other countries. (Author)
