Tests were conducted on a 1:25-scale model of the filling and emptying systems of the existing 600- by 110-ft lock of the McAlpine project. These tests were concerned with whether structurally feasible modifications of the systems would result in decreased turbulence and hawser stresses and thus permit faster filling and emptying of the lock.
