This report presents the results of a research task carried out under TCRP Project D7, Joint Rail Transit-Related Research with the Association of American Railroads/Transportation Technology Center, inc., Transit Switch Design Analysis (Phase 1). Under this task, a new switch design concept for transit was developed. A prototype of the switch will be produced and tested in Phase II of the effort. This report should be of interest to engineers responsible for design, construction, maintenance, and operation of rail transit systems.
