The first teleoperated mobile vehicle was deployed at the Savannah River Plant in 1984 in response to a radioactive spill on the top of a large, outside waste storage tank. Based on the experience with teleoperators, a telerobotic vehicle for use in a wide range of nuclear applications is being developed. This research is briefly discussed and future research directions are touched upon. (ERA citation 13:039004)
