The proposed project, the Copper Canyon Section of the Cordes Junction-Flagstaff Highway (Interstate Route 17), is a four-lane controlled access highway improvement, generally following the corridor of State Route 79 in Yavapai County, Arizona. The project begins approximately 16.5 miles north of Cordes Junction, extends northeast to a point one-quarter mile north of Tom's Creek Road (FAS 324) and has an approximate length of 6.78 miles. The acquisition of land for additional right of way and its removal from the land use pattern cannot be avoided. The alteration of natural terrain and the removal of vegetation will occur as a result of necessary construction operations; however, the effect will be minimized by reseeding and planting techniques. An evaluation, at this time, indicates that the project will result in a beneficial impact statewide, regional and local. Interstate highway warrants will be satisfied and a safe, convenient highway of adequate capacity will be provided for operators of all classes of vehicles.
