A simplified airborne collision-warning device is suggested in which each aircraft transmits its barometric altitude by radio. The likelihood of collision is determined by noting relative altitude and variation in signal strength between the two aircraft. While the feasibility of separating signals into 'near' and 'far' categories would have to be determined by flight tests, it is felt that the low cost and early availability of the system justifies its consideration.
