Guinea Aluminum Products Company (GAPCO), through its wholly owned subsidiary, Boke Alumina Corporation (BAC) is proposing to construct a new alumina refinery adjacent to existing mining operations near Sangaredi in the Republic of Guinea. The alumina produced at the new refinery will be transported by rail to the Port of Kamsar, located on the northwest coast of Guinea, and approximately 136 kilometers from Sangaredi. The existing port will require new facilities to receive, store, and export large quantities of alumina, as well as to import, store and transfer required fuel and inputs to the refinery, such as coal, fuel, oil, and caustic soda. Additionally, provisions may have to be made at the existing Port for the import of all equipment and materials required to construct the refinery, to be shipped by rail to the Sangaredi site. The purpose of this report is to present the primary operational requirements along with key design and construction criteria for the development of the Port of Kamsar expansion.
