The vessel design described in the report is an attempt to fulfill the specification requirements with an economical vessel from the standpoint both of first costs and operating costs. It is believed that this ship will form a satisfactory base of operation for Project Mohole, fulfilling all requirements of the drilling vessel but without unnecessary refinements. For example, the hull form is a simplified barge-like hull which could not be propelled economically at a higher speed. (Author)
